Emergency Preparedness Plans were developed to keep you safe in the event of an emergency. These plans were designed by your Local, State and Federal Emergency Management Agencies. Sirens will sound if there is a recommendation for the public to take protective actions, such as sheltering or evacuating an area. Sirens will be sounded three times each for three minutes with a one minute break between soundings. You may also be warned by your local Police and/or Fire Departments. When you hear a siren………….. Go inside, and tune into your local television and /or radio stations. for emergency information. They will interrupt their programming to give you emergency news and to inform you on what to do. The sound of the siren does NOT mean to evacuate immediately. They are there to notify the citizens of Lake County of an Emergency in Lake County and are used for multiple emergency situations. Sheltering….. Go inside and stay there. Bring pets inside, close all air intakes such as windows, doors, air conditioners...etc. Stay tuned to the radio or TV for updates on news events. Hang a bright cloth or towel outside your door or on your mail box to let emergency workers know that you have been informed. Evacuation….. If you are told to evacuate, pack emergency supplies such as medicine, baby food, formula, toiletries, glasses/contacts, credit cards/money, any important papers, first aid kit, any special necessities, battery operated radio with extra batteries, extra clothing and a spare pair of shoes, two blankets or a sleeping bag per person. Leave when advised using one car per family. Listen to local radio alert stations (EAS) for traffic information and proceed to the nearest care center. If you do not drive, please get a ride with a neighbor or friend. If necessary call your local Emergency Management Agency. Preparation…. Try to be prepared for any emergency. Have plans drawn up, talk with family members about a safe place to meet in an emergency. Practice your emergency plans frequently. |
